I finally have some pictures of Mt. Rushmore.

We didn't actually go up into the monument park. The traffic was terrible. I pulled over to the side of the road and got these pictures.

We did a drive by of the Crazy Horse Monument too. They charge $30 for you to get close to face that you can also see from the road.

There are more pictures on the South Dakota page.

Today was a road trip to Deadwood and Lead. Deadwood looks nothing like an old west town anymore. The parts that do look western are new. If you are looking for historic towns, this isn't it anymore. I guess wood buildings don't last.

We went to the cemetery. It has graves from the 1800's including Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. We didn't go in because it was raining. It is also the first cemetery we've seen that charges an admission fee.

Lead is an old mining town with a huge active mine in the middle of town. The whole town is built on the sides of the hills. There is no flat space.

Deadwood is also in a big gully with most of the town on the hillsides. Unlike Lead, Deadwood does have some flat land around Main Street.
