We are heading in to our last week in Kerrville.

This photo is from the big rainstorm that went through last week. There are some dry ponds here that are for overflow from the lake. Here is one of them on the day before the storm.

Here is the same pond after the storm.

The lake overflowed to one pond, but there are still 2 more dry overflow ponds after it. That was still a lot of water in one day. It's been few days now and that pond is drying up.

We noticed a trend here in Kerrville. Businesses don't want to be just one thing. Here are a couple of the stranger combinations.

The first one is a market with alterations. I have seen dry cleaners with alterations before, but not a market. That second photo is a plumber/pest control business. I don't know how those 2 came together. There is also a post office/candy store in town. I don't have a picture of it, but we did go into it when we needed to ship a package. It's really mostly candy store with a post office counter in the back. Still a strange combination of business.

We've made a change to our itinerary again. We will leave Kerrville and go to San Antonio for only one week, then we will go to Columbus, TX for a week, then we are back on schedule. We did that because we want to be in the Houston area for the pre-drywall walkthrough. We don't want to have to drive 4 hours, have a 2 hour walkthrough, then drive back. We've been to Columbus before. In fact, that was where we were staying when we started the new house process.

The trailer wheel finally arrived. I had to take it in to a tire store and have the tire moved from the spare tire to the new rim. That was actually cheap compared to all the rest of the process. Anyway, the trailer is back in shape and ready to hit the road.

House News:

We have a new picture.

The only thing new we can see is that trench on the side of the garage. We don't know what it's for.

Beer News:

I am all caught up with brewing. I bottled the pale ale yesterday. I only used bottles because the growler has the wheat beer in it. We have started drinking the wheat beer. With all the brewing I've done lately, I used up all my bottles. I have only 8 empty bottles.

I think I will try something different for my next batch. I will to make an alcohol free batch alongside a regular batch. I want to see how different they taste. To make non-alcoholic beer, you ferment as you normally do, and when you are ready to bottle, you put the beer on the stove and heat it up to 180º for 30 minutes to evaporate out the alcohol. As long as I don't do something with a lot of hop flavor or aroma, they should taste similar. I would like to have them taste the same, but that never seems to happen. I think I will brew an ale then put half of the batch in one growler (that will have alcohol) and then try to make the other half non-alcoholic and put that in another growler. Since they come from the same batch and have the same fermentation time, they should taste the same.
